Goshen Theater Drama Club 2022

About GTDC

Goshen Theater Drama Club brings educational opportunities to the youth of our community and those in surrounding areas. Students explore their artistry in exciting and challenging ways. We make programming accessible to all students – those with a desire to perform or make art behind the scenes.

Through singing, dancing, acting, and technical theater design, students explore all aspects of the performing arts.

Art and culture lessons are also provided to students through discussions about the origins of storytelling and performing arts globally and how these inform theater today.

We explore character development, story creation, and technical theater design through hands-on creation. Through puppetry, improvisation, costume design, stage makeup, or lighting design, we bring practical skills to life.

GTDC focuses on teaching our students to be artists of the world. We encourage them to find ways to use their art to give back to their community.

Acting Studio is designed to provide students the room and necessary tools for acting and performance. Each week students will collaborate with their fellow artists to create characters and worlds for those characters to explore. Through improv, character creation, and sensory work, students will gain a better understanding of how to tell a story. Learning how to use not only words, but our bodies and actor tools. Students should come to class ready to move freely, collaborate with fellow artists, and to have fun with their creativity and imaginations.

Classes meet on Mondays, starting on September 12th.

  • 4 – 5:10 PM
    8-10 Year-Olds Acting Studio
  • 5:20 – 6:30 PM

Dance Studio is designed to teach the technical aspects of Jazz and Tap for the future Musical Theatre star! Students will learn the in-depth terminology and skills of both Jazz and Tap to prepare them for the Musical Theatre industry! Their Jazz skills will include a variety of sub-genres from Technical Jazz, Jazz Funk, Fosse, Modern Jazz, and Pop! We will focus on their flexibility, technique, stamina, and retention. Their Tap skills will include a variety of sub-genres from Technical Tap, Soft Shoe, Rhythm Tap, Swing Tap, and Musical Tap! We will focus on their ankle articulation, rhythm, sound quality, and retention! Students will need clothes that are easy to move in and not restrictive! We hope to prepare the dancers for whatever path they choose to take!

    Dance Studio
  • Final Showcase on December 16th at 7 PM.
This class is taught by Liz Wickens, Goshen Theater Drama Club 2022 Camp Choreographer and Instructor for Expression Dance Studio in Plymouth, IN.
Vocal Studio is designed to provide students with musical training and performance experiences in an outside-of-school environment. Each class will meet weekly and culminates with a midterm and final showcase to display how they’ve grown as musicians. Students enrolled in the class will perform solo and group repertoire appropriate to their age and skill level. Solo features allow the students to develop their own vocal techniques and work with the instructor 1 on 1. Class repertoire will allow the student to develop fundamental musical teamwork and ear training skills that they will use for life. The “goals” of the class are to always have fun, to learn the most they can, to be a part of a musical community, and grow.
Classes meet on Tuesdays, starting on September 13th.
  • 4:30 – 5:40 PM Vocal Studio
  • Final Showcase on December 16th at 7 PM.
This class is taught by Xan Seymour, Goshen Theater Drama Club 2022 Camp Musical Director and local High School choir teacher.

Goshen Theater Drama Club’s Summer Camp

Goshen Theater Drama Club’s Summer Camp is a unique, three-week program focusing on fine arts learning, fun, and performance. Participants learn about theater, design, storytelling, history, and teamwork. Classes are held at the newly-renovated, historic Goshen Theater.

Professional instructors and local educators serve as guides for this one-of-a-kind program. The culmination of the three-week experience is a live performance on the Goshen Theater Stage! Each student’s design work and group projects will be displayed in a gallery show in the GT lobby.

The Drama Club’s summer camp doesn’t just focus on performers: Students are exposed to every aspect of theater production, helping to create and design their final show. From program design to costumes and scenic painting, the Goshen Theater Drama Club’s three-week summer program is for youth, by youth!

We believe practical, hands-on creativity is the best way to learn, and you’ll be surprised how much theater arts has to teach about math, science, English, writing, and creative problem-solving.

Two tracks are available to campers: “Performance” and “Technical Theater.” While every student will experience both performance-based and technical design lessons, we want them to explore art in the most exciting – and comfortable – ways for them. Performance track students will be on stage for the showcase, while Technical Theater students will create designs, running the productionfrom behind the scenes.

Tuition:

Full Three Weeks – $250/student

One or Two Weeks – $100/week

Financial aid and Scholarships are available. Email [email protected] for more information.
